Track Affiliate Commissions Back to Your Facebook Ads Campaigns
The affiliate redirect is a blind spot: your commission lands in the network, and Facebook never learns which ad set or creative earned it. This playbook closes the loop with AutoTagged offer links and network postbacks.
The moment a visitor clicks through to your offer, you go dark. The sale closes on the merchant’s site, the commission lands in your network dashboard, and Facebook, which charged you for the click, never finds out. Affiliates call this stretch the redirect blackout, and everything you can’t see inside it costs money:
- Your click ID dies at the redirect. Unless something carries it into the network’s subid field, no commission can ever be traced back to an ad set.
- Advantage+ optimizes on the wrong signal. With no conversions coming back, Meta bids toward the cheapest clicks instead of the clicks that pay out.
- Your EPC is one blended number. The network dashboard totals your earnings per click (EPC) across every campaign, so you can’t shift budget to the ad sets that actually earn.
This playbook closes the blackout with the tools already in your stack. AnyTrack threads its click ID through your network’s own postback machinery, matches every commission and rebill back to the session and ad set that earned it, and sends the conversion to Meta server-side with the payout attached.
The Journey of a Tracked Conversion
Follow one visitor from the Facebook ad click, through the offer link, to a conversion attributed back to the ad set that earned it. Every signal is tracked, enriched, and sent automatically.
Steps marked with the AnyTrack node run automatically. No extra code, no manual tagging.
Example Scenario
Say you run Meta traffic to a presell page for a supplement offer on ClickBank: a $67 front-end, an order bump, and one upsell. The network says you earned $2,400 last week. Which ad sets earned it, and which just burned clicks? The dashboard can’t say. For this stack to answer, the loop has to hold at three points:
- The click ID must survive the hop. From the ad click, through your presell page, into the offer link’s subid, so a sale hours later still knows its ad set.
- The postback must come home with the payout. Sale, bump, upsell, and rebill each return with a value AnyTrack can match to the original session.
- Meta must hear about it fast. Conversions arrive server-side while the signal is fresh enough to steer bidding and refill audiences.
- An AnyTrack account on Starter or above, so conversions can be sent to Meta through the Conversion API
- An affiliate network that can return a server-to-server postback carrying your own subid (Impact, ClickBank, MaxBounty, Everflow, and most CPA networks can; a network that only reports inside its own dashboard cannot)
- A Facebook Business Manager with an ad account and a Meta Pixel you can manage
- Your own presell or landing pages where you can install the Tracking Tag
Step 1: Install the Tracking Tag
Paste the Tracking Tag before </head> on your presell pages. From the moment it loads, AnyTrack AutoTags every recognized offer link on the page with a fresh click ID, carried to your network as a subid, and tracks each click out as an OutboundClick event. No link editing, and no cloaking redirect in the path, so the offer link your visitor follows stays clean.
Check the subid in seconds
Hover an offer link on your presell page: the subid should already carry a click ID. If the network strips it, the sale can’t be tied back to its ad set.
Step 2: Connect Your Affiliate Network
In the AnyTrack Integration Catalog, install your network’s integration and copy the postback URL it gives you, then paste that URL into your network’s postback or server-to-server settings. AnyTrack pre-fills the subid parameters: s1 carries the click ID that matches each conversion back to the original session. Send these values on the postback:
click_id(ass1): the AnyTrack click ID, the match key that ties the conversion back to the ad set that started it.transaction_id: the network’s unique order ID, so a retried postback doesn’t double-count.payoutandcurrency: the commission value, so Meta learns what each conversion is worth, not just that it happened.
Most networks have a pre-built template. If yours isn’t in the catalog, follow the Custom Affiliate Network guide to wire the same postback by hand. ClickBank users have a dedicated flow in the ClickBank integration, and a full TikTok version of this stack in the ClickBank to TikTok playbook. Networks that pay on leads, like Impact and most CPL networks, can return a lead postback through the same URL; AnyTrack records it as a Lead.
Test conversions need the click ID
A network test conversion only tracks if it passes the click ID back through the subid. Plan on one real qualifying sale to confirm the loop end to end.
If your checkout sits on your own separate domain instead of the network’s, that hop needs cross-domain tracking to carry the click ID across it.
Step 3: Connect Facebook Ads
Open Tracking Pixels in AnyTrack, add a new pixel, and click Connect Facebook Pixel. Authenticate with your Business Manager, choose the Pixel ID, toggle Server-to-Server Tracking on to enable the Conversion API, connect your ad account, and save. From here AnyTrack sends every conversion straight from its servers to Meta’s, where ad blockers and browser privacy restrictions can’t touch it. The Tracking Tag also loads your Meta Pixel and sends only PageView from the browser, so the pixel handles page loads while every conversion goes server-side.
One pixel, no duplicates
Remove any Meta Pixel installed manually or by another app, and confirm Events Manager shows no Browser Events; a second pixel breaks deduplication.
Step 4: Map Your Events and Verify Your Ads
Open the Meta Pixel’s Conversion Settings and map your events. For affiliates the backbone is two events: map Purchase to Meta’s Purchase, and map OutboundClick to InitiateCheckout so the click out to the offer becomes an early optimization signal. Then wire whatever else your network returns, keeping standard events on standard events:
- ClickBank tracks order-page impressions as
InitiateCheckout; mapOutboundClicktoAddToCartthere so the two signals stay distinct. - Everflow’s newer eCommerce events (
ViewContent,AddToCart,InitiateCheckout) map straight to their Meta namesakes. - Lead postbacks map to Meta’s
Lead. - Rebills map to a custom
Upsellconversion; custom conversions are created from the AnyTrack dashboard and need a one-time approval in Meta.
These micro conversions do more than fill the Event Log: they reach Meta before the Purchase does, so your campaigns accumulate signal between sales and attribution accelerates instead of waiting on the next payout.
Then wire up campaign attribution: copy AnyTrack’s UTM tracking template from the Ads Integrations tab, paste it into your campaign’s URL parameters in Meta Ads Manager, and click Verify Ads Settings until every campaign shows a green mark. Facebook doesn’t auto-append campaign parameters, so without the template the Campaign Report can’t split revenue and EPC per ad set.
Verify the loop end to end
Trigger a test visit, watch the OutboundClick in the Event Log, then see it in Meta’s Test Events within about 30 seconds.
Step 5: Launch the Campaign Stack
The postback loop is closed. Two campaigns run on it: one hunts new buyers, one recovers the clicks you already paid for.
Prospecting: bid on Purchase, not clicks
Your main traffic engine, pointed at commissions instead of cheap traffic.
- Destination: your presell page, with AnyTrack’s UTM tracking template pasted into the campaign’s URL parameters and Verify Ads Settings showing green, so every session carries both the
fbclidand the campaign attribution. - Budget: a daily budget your commission margin can carry through a learning week, then scaled in steps of 20 to 30% for the ad sets whose EPC clears your cost per click. Keep new ad sets above Meta’s learning-phase threshold so bidding can exit learning.
- Audience: broad. The
Purchaseconversions carry payout values, so let Advantage+ find your buyers instead of stacking interest filters. - Event tracking: optimizes on the
Purchaseconversions returned through the network postback, each carrying its payout; every visitor generates theOutboundClickevents that feed the retargeting pool below. - Conversion objective: a Sales campaign optimized for your
Purchaseevent. While sales are too sparse for bidding to exit learning, optimize for the mappedInitiateCheckoutfirst (your outbound clicks arrive as that event), then switch toPurchaseonce payouts accumulate.
Retargeting: recover the offer-clickers
The redirect blackout used to hide these people. Now they’re an audience.
- Destination: the presell page, same campaign URL parameters, so the second visit is attributed like the first.
- Budget: 10 to 15% of prospecting. The pool refills with every prospecting click, so scale the two together.
- Audience: a Facebook Custom Audience built from
OutboundClickwithoutPurchase, 7-day window. These people clicked through to the offer and stalled. - Event tracking: fed by the
OutboundClickevents AnyTrack tracks on your presell pages; generates thePurchaseconversions that lift each buyer out of the audience automatically. - Conversion objective: a Sales campaign optimized for
Purchase, running on the custom audience these ads are attached to.
Affiliate compliance on Meta
Disclosure, prohibited categories, landing page quality: run a compliant presell you own and review Meta’s policies before scaling (compliance basics).
The Optimization Loop
A commission that posts back tonight is bidding data tonight. Each postback picks up its session, its campaign, and its fbclid inside AnyTrack and lands in Meta’s models while the buyer is still reading the merchant’s receipt. Payouts teach Advantage+ what clicks never could: a $12 front-end and a $180 rebill stop looking identical, buyers drop out of the offer-clicker audience the moment they convert, and between sales the mapped InitiateCheckout events keep prospecting ad sets learning. AnyTrack’s half of the exchange runs in real time; Meta folds each conversion into bidding on its own schedule, up to 3 days for modeled conversions.
Once a week, take the seat the algorithm can’t fill:
- Measure. Which ad sets earn and which just click? The Campaign Report answers in EPC, revenue, and ROAS per campaign and ad set, bumps and rebills included. When a number looks off, open the network integration’s Event Log: every postback is listed there, errored or successful, with the reason attached. Keep one eye on Event Match Quality in Events Manager.
- Improve. Budget follows EPC: feed the ad sets whose earnings clear their click costs, pause creatives that produce outbound clicks but no payouts, and move each maturing ad set’s optimization event down the funnel, from
InitiateCheckouttoPurchase, once sales arrive steadily. If retargeting frequency runs hot, shorten the window. - Expand. A presell page with proven EPC deserves a second creative angle. A purchaser audience past a workable size deserves a lookalike, funded by the campaigns that built it. And the event stream you’re now sending supports finer tiers:
OutboundClickminusPurchasestays your warm pool while buyers seed the cold expansion.
The network was always going to report your commissions. The difference is that now every one of them also teaches Facebook where the next one comes from.
Wrapping Up
Here’s what you shipped:
- Offer links that AutoTag themselves with the click ID and carry it into your network’s subid, so the redirect blackout no longer breaks attribution.
- Network postbacks tracked as conversions, matched to the original session, and sent to Meta through the Conversion API with payout, product, and conversion type attached.
- A prospecting and retargeting stack that bids on payouts, plus a weekly loop that keeps budget on the ad sets that earn.
Your network dashboard still shows the same commissions it always did. The difference is that Facebook has now seen every one of them, and it’s spending your budget accordingly. Running the same offers on Google? The Google Ads version of this playbook closes the loop there too.
